Students at Hillsboro Charter Academy Investigate Aqua Dragons in Zero Gravity
This May, students at Hillsboro Charter Academy, under the guidance of educator Megan Tucker, will embark on an out-of-this-world scientific journey to study how Aqua Dragons (Artemia salina) respond to microgravity! Their experiment will be conducted aboard a ZERO-G parabolic aircraft as part of the Space for Teachers program.
Thanks to the generous support of World Alive and Goliath Games, the students have received Aqua Dragons kits, allowing them to explore the fascinating life cycle of these tiny aquatic creatures, both in the classroom and in weightless conditions. This hands-on experience offers the students a unique opportunity to engage in real scientific inquiry while developing crucial skills in experimentation, data collection, and problem-solving.
“We’re thrilled to support this incredible project,” said Amy from World Alive. “Seeing students take their curiosity beyond the classroom and into real-world science is exactly what STEM education is all about.”
The students’ experiment will focus on observing how Aqua Dragons behave and move in microgravity, alongside other student-designed projects, as part of Space for Teachers, an initiative that gives educators the opportunity to conduct real research in alignment with NASA and industry priorities.
As the experiment takes flight, both the students and their teacher will share their findings with the community, inspiring future scientists to explore the wonders of space and STEM.
